The city is divided into several sections (as shown on the map in the game manual) that are connected by gates at the edge of each sector. This section is the only monster-free area where you can buy/sell items, rest (but not in open street), heal and train. Go to the Inns (3) to rest and memorize your spells. It only costs a platinum piece to encamp there and you can do everything you need to prepare for the future battles. By the way when you clear an area, like the Slums, you can go there and rest anytime you want without loosing a coin. Familiarize  with  the  stores  (6,  7,  8,  10)  and  buy  some  basic  equipment  for  your  characters. Remember to “ready” any weapon or armor you buy otherwise your character will never use his gear in battle. Pay a visit to the various taverns (9) of the city to overhear some gossip but avoid confrontation with the patrons or, especially, with the guards. In the training hall you can duel with other fighters and hire a couple of NPCs (19) or train your characters by entering the appropriate room (20, 21, 22, 23). If you hire a NPCs he will demand a share of the treasure after each battle (depending on his experience) and the training process will cost you 1000 GP (200 PP) for each level of training. Go to the Council Clerk to receive your first commission. You must clear the Slums from monsters, so, when you’re ready, head for the city gates (1) and cross them to enter the Slums.
